Daniel Stabrawa

Daniel Stabrawa is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Krakow, where he studied violin under Professor Zbigniew Szlezer. He is a laureate of several international music competitions, including the Nicolo Paganini Competition in Genoa. Stabrawa began his music career as the concertmaster of the Polish Radio and Television Orchestra in Krakow. In 1983, he became a member of the renowned Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he served as the first concertmaster and soloist for 35 years.

Stabrawa has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in a wide range of concertos, including Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1, Kurt Weill’s Violin Concerto, Jeno Hubay’s Violin Concerto No. 3, Rudi Stephan’s Music for Violin and Orchestra, and Andrzej Panufnik’s Violin Concerto. He is also known for his promotion of Karol Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 1, which was first performed in the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Mariss Jansons in June 1994 with great critical acclaim. Stabrawa has performed this concerto as a soloist and chamber musician on stages all over the world, including the Royal Festival Hall in London and Madrid with the London Philharmonic Orchestra

As a conductor, Stabrawa has led the Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra on numerous occasions from the concertmaster’s podium in some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls. He has also collaborated with Nigel Kennedy as a soloist, performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double Violin Concerto in D minor. The artists have also recorded Bach’s violin concertos together for EMI, and the album was one of the highest-rated recordings of the Year of Bach.

Daniel Stabrawa was also the first violinist of the Philharmonia Quartet Berlin, which quickly gained international recognition and acclaim, performing in the most prestigious concert halls from Japan to the United States. Critics consider the quartet to be part of the global elite of such ensembles, and one American reviewer even wrote that it sets the artistic standard for string quartets worldwide. The group has recorded many albums, of which the best have been honored with awards, including the prestigious Echo Klassik award from German critics twice.

Daniel Stabrawa regularly performs as a soloist, with various orchestras from Scandinavia to South America, and also gives recitals in leading musical centers around the world. He also serves on the jury of many international violin competitions.

For the past 20 years, he has also been involved in conducting. He has been the principal conductor of the Capella Bydgostiensis chamber orchestra, with which he has performed, among other places, in Switzerland and recorded several albums (for CD Accord and Cavalli-Records).
