Opening concert

11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition opened the ceremonial inauguration concert, which took place on November 17, 2023. The Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic, conducted by Yaroslav Shemet – artistic director and jury member of the competition, performed at the beginning the most famous work by Grzegorz Fitelber – the symphonic poem “Song of the Falcon” op. 18. Then the star of world opera stages, Sonya Yoncheva, appeared on stage. We heard songs from the Rückert-Lieder cycle for soprano and orchestra, the performance of which touched the hearts of many listeners. The soloist’s performance accompanied by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was rewarded with applause and a standing ovation. We had the great pleasure of listening to an encore – the aria “O mio babbino caro” from the opera “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini. In the second part of the concert, the Symphony Orchestra brilliantly performed Symphony No. 9 in E minor “From the New World”, Op. 95 Antonin Dvorak. The audience also gave this performance a standing ovation.

The concert was broadcast around the world via the Italian television medici.tv, we could also listen to it on the Second Program of Polish Radio.
