Andriy Yurkevych

Born in Zborov, Ukraine, in 1999 he graduated from the Mykola Lysenko National Academy of Music in Lviv with the direction of Yuri Luciv.

In the same year, Andriy Yurkevych won a special prize at the Turčak National Competition in Kyiv. He subsequently studied with Jack Kaspszyk at the National Opera in Warsaw, at the Chigiana Academy of Music in Siena with Gianluigi Gelmetti, with Donato Renzetti in Pescara, and with Alberto Zedda in Pesaro.

Since 1996, he has been the resident conductor of the Lviv National Opera, where he debuted in several operas and ballets.

In 2002, he moved to Italy and since then his career has also continued abroad. After his debut at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2005, he guested in many Italian and other theaters, e.g. Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, German Opera Berlin, Bavarian State Opera Munich, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Flemish Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Municipal in Santiago (Chile), in San Francisco Opera, Greek National Opera in Athens, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, in opera houses in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Cologne, Zurich, St. Gallen, Budapest, etc.

He was the music director of the National Opera in Odessa, the National Opera in Warsaw, and the Moldovan National Theater of Opera and Ballet.

He is a laureate of the International Opera Award (8th year “Opera Star”) – Gli Oscar della Lirica.

He holds the titles of Honored Artist of Ukraine and Moldova.

He made his first appearance at the State Opera in Prague in May 2022 during the performance of Verdi’s opera La Traviata.

From September 2022 Andriy Yurkevych is the Music director of the State Opera in Prague,  part of the National Theatre.
